I am pleased to let you know that we were well represented at the Happy Trails Classic Pickleball Tournament held in January and came home with four medals. This is an outstanding showing, being that our club has only been playing the game since last May.
Our website has been renamed to www.trilogypickleball.com It should now be easier to find and share information.

Parking at the Pickleball courts:
I have a request from Jeff Dixon for us to park at the lower Kiva Club parking lot. He has received a few concerned phone calls about the narrowness of the street and access for emergency vehicles, particularly along Makena. I know it’s not as convenient but let’s consider the walk across Trilogy Blvd part of our warm-up routine. Thanks for your cooperation.

Club Formed…Board Selected
The first official meeting of the Trilogy at Vistancia Pickleball Club (TVPC) took place Wednesday evening, September 16, 2009.
The first item of business was the election our officers. Officers elected are
President - Mike Pagliarulo Vice President - Don Beardsworth Treasurer - Don Johnson Secretary - Sharon Reder
At large Members are: Bill Dobbins Stuart Helfrich Sharon O'Reilly
The second item of business was to establish club dues at $25.00 which includes membership through 2010a. A membership application is available by e-mailing Mike at mpagliarulo@hotmail.com
Thirdly the new board will move quickly to establish a schedule of play times and begin the development of a player ladder.
Well, by now most of us have heard that the Shea Board and the HOA are not interested in participating in the development and growth of Pickleball here at Trilogy. The recent response I received was "Please know that Shea has no plans or budget for any additional amenities...."
With this said, we must decide where we want to go with our sport using the current facilities available to us. In order to do this, I think we must get more organized. So, it’s time to form the Trilogy Pickleball Club.
I have the application from the HOA which will enable us to be recognized as a club within our Trilogy community. One of the criteria in formalizing the club is the election of officers. A meeting for all prospective club members will be held at the Kiva Club on Wednesday September 16th at 7:30PM in the Tewa Room. We will elect our officers at that meeting and discuss our short-term and long-term goals.
In addition to the election of officers, we will want to address the following subjects:
Dues - We will need some funding during the course of the year for general operating expenses and supplies. We can discuss our potential needs might be.
Continued use of the basketball court for our pickleball players. We will need to make some improvements to the courts. Possible repainting the courts and lines. I have asked for an opinion on the subject from the RCC.
Establishment of league/challenge ladder. What days and times would we like to expand our play? What kinds of play do we want to see: Singles, Doubles, Mixed doubles, etc.
Participation in the National Pickleball Tournament. More detailed information is below. We can discuss attendance as a group and our participating in the competition.
Let me know if you would like to add anything else to the agenda.
Great turnout once again this past Wednesday and Saturday. We had some special guests on Sunday morning. A couple of our friend from Surprise came to visit. As many of their co-players have fled the valley for the summer, it was great to see Tom and Kathleen Doody. Both of these folks spent over an hour instructing some of our beginning player which was much appreciated. We had a chance to visit and play a couple of matches as well. They are truly impressed with how far we have come and the levels of participation we are getting in such a short period of time.
Tom and Kathleen brought along some terrific paddles which are being manufactured by Spike Christensen another of the folks we met down at Surprise. They are of great quality and can be customized with any type of picture, drawing or logo you would like. Prices are reasonable as well ($35-$55.) He is planning to visit us with some of his paddles this next weekend and will be available for us to try out. I'll let you know as soon as I have the day of his visit confirmed. We are making progress in our efforts to obtain more permanent facilities for pickleball. Shea has agreed to consider a redesign of the basketball court area to be converted to a multi-use facility. This will take some time, so in the short term we will be adding two more sets of concrete standards and I have purchased two additional heavy-duty nets. These should be available for Wednesday evenings' play. We will also be putting down two inch wide chalk lines that will be more easily distinguished from the basketball lines.
A small favor is asked: - Please, when leaving the pickleball courts, use the the area of street where you can make a U-turn and avoid turning around in peoples' driveways. As we all know, unsightly tire marks are created as we move the steering wheel making the turns on the concrete. Thanks for your understanding. Don't forget our schedule remains: Three courts on Wednesday (5:30 PM-7:30 PM) and Saturday and Sunday for play from 7:00 AM to about 10:00 AM each day. Come and join us.
Well, Patsy and I enjoyed a great little getaway this week up at the Mogollon Rim. Temperatures were about 20 degrees cooler than here, so it was jeans and sweatshirts but enjoyable. We were back Wednesday afternoon and had a nice crowd of about 16 to play Pickleball last evening. Colleen Brownworth invested in a second court similar to what we have been playing with and Stewart Helfrich built a couple of cement standards with a great net that provided us two additional courts. The court layout isn't quite right yet but we can now get 12 people playing concurrently. I haven't heard back from Shea regarding our ability to put down some semi-permanent court lines or leave our standards up but I'll let you know as soon as I do hear something. What I would like to see in the immediate future is that we have permission to paint semi-permanent court lines and leave the standards in-place. The nets would be removed and available for checkout at the Kiva Club for anyone who wants to play on their own at any time. We will continue to schedule "pickup" games on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays for all who would like to come out.
If anyone is interested in purchasing their own paddle (not a requirement,) there are places on the internet and any of the sporting good stores will have a selection. I would suggest a graphite model. They run between $49 and $69. Here's a good place online: http://www.thepickleballstore.com/catalog/1/paddles and yes, buy some balls as well. Yellow I think work best. If you are to the point where you would like to learn more about the game, visit: http://pickleballlessons.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html We are planning to set up three courts on Saturday and Sunday for open play from 7:00 AM to about 10:00 AM each day. Come and join us. Let me know of anyone you think might like to be added to this email group so they can receive our updates. We want to build on something I think is exciting for our community. Also, be on the lookout for a brief survey regarding Pickleball and other amenities here at Trilogy. Here's an opportunity to express your opinion.
